WEEK 6...sustaining...

So week 6 has come and gone, and OH MY GOODNESS it's been a hard one!

As well as battling with this illness which has become some sort of limpet I cannot shake, I have started to go into Christmas mode (where the end of term is closer than the beginning of term and therefore things start to slow down...or I do) I'm trying to remind myself that this Law degree is not slowing down for 2 AND A HALF MORE YEARS!

So in terms of the real business...training, it's been ok this week...not fantastic! Unfortunately I haven't progressed from my milage last week (completed a total of 7/8 miles altogether this week) but I'm just trying to sustain fitness levels and shake the suffocation feeling in my head when I start to exercise!! This annoying illness...eaten about 50 oranges this week I swear...how much vitamin C can this virus take! (I also did body conditioning (OUCH), netball training and a netball match (which we won))

I think my big target is to fit in the miles around my hectic schedule when it comes to the cold weather and it becomes harder and harder to visualise my marathon buddies laughing at me as they speed past...when really I'm laughing at them from my warm bed...*slap round the face*
SNAP OUT OF IT.

I am also planning a big fundraising event which I am hoping to be a success and all will be revealed in the new year! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a big name to host it....

So donations aren't fantastic currently but it's still early days and I don't want to spam just yet :) so if you do have any spare pennies to donate to the wonderful cause that is Variety Children's Charity this is the link...

Just a reminder that Variety help disadvantaged, disabled and sick children from providing transport for days out, mobility aids to supporting youth groups and providing opportunity that so many of us take for granted. It is all to a good cause, and so appreciated.

I will even say make a donation in honour of my 21st birthday (in 3 weeks time) if you can spare even a little, it all counts towards bigger things.

Have a fantastic week and if you fancy it, put your trainers on and venture into the cold, sunny mornings...It will make you happy, trust me :)

WEEK 5...still here!

Ok so I skipped a week last week with the blog because I was at home celebrating the little bro's big 16...and I came back to Southampton with a marathon training magazine (great read) and a new spur of motivation!!

Then I got really ill.

HOWEVER...considering I could only breathe out of my mouth this week,  training went really well and I'm beginning to feel less wobble as the days go by! I completed 11.05 miles altogether this week.  That was over a series of 2 outdoor runs, and 2 (quite pitiful) gym sessions...like I said, I couldn't breathe!

I also did a body conditioning class this week...which I was surprised to get out of alive! Scariest women trainer...literally the type of women who would probably kick you back into that plank if you drop!! I'm sure I'll thank her some day...I'm trying to improve my overall strength where I hear it makes you a stronger runner!

My team won our netball game this week! So 2 netball sessions on top of my work outs and its been quite a busy one! Last night I motivated myself and planned out that I would run the long way home from netball to get some miles in...it worked really well because now I am home and I don't have to go out again! I'm going to make it a regular thing...to be honest the 24 minutes of sprinting around the netball court basically killed me so I'm surprised I managed to get home! (some walking was involved). We stopped our match at 11 for the 2 minutes silence, quite important considering my military roots. Remembrance always makes me think about Dukies parading through the school, and then onto Chapel for the loudest rendition of 'Sons of the Brave' humanly possible. We will remember them.

I am going to incorporate some hill running and rowing into my workouts and see how that goes...(the shear thought of hill running makes me start to sweat a bit..) however, it MUST be done!! My fellow marathon runners are probably tackling some mountain while I'm sat here merely typing about hill running, and still feeling tired!

So thanks for reading...I'd love some tips if anyone has any and sponsorship if you can spare a couple of pennies...incase you are weary...I WILL be finishing the marathon and I appreciate all your support :)

Happy Sunday!
Love Laura

WEEK 3...ahh nooooo

So WEEK 3 IS COMPLETED...and the idea of this marathon is getting scarier and scarier!! BUT I am definitely getting fitter so thats a bonus!!

This week I've mixed it up a bit and went swimming!! It was actually really nice to respond to my fellow marathon runners laughing at me with 'suckers' as I flapped through the water! (I'm not known for my gracefulness). However most exercise I do at the moment seems to be proceeded by some sort of chocolate. Problem is I feel like I deserve it after my (slightly) gruelling sessions on the treadmill, or 'flapping' as so delicately put!! Well, as an avid Googler I keep reading about how I need to fuel my runs...well, THATS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!

So ONWARDS AND UPWARDS...tonight I am doing aerobics and I am gradually acquiring training buddies which is going to be SUCH a help. Think I'll probably start fancying myself as some hardcore PT instructor and then be run circles around...positive thoughts, positive thoughts.

It's so nice to see that people have been reading my blog...its on 100 views!! So loving life a bit over here...I'm pretty sure I contributed about 50 of those views, trying to view, who'd viewed the blog! However that is by the by, 100 views woo!

I shall see you next week...

WEEK 2...still alive, for now.

So...week 2 is done and yesterday marked the 6 month mark...therefore in 6 months time today it will all be over and me and Hannah will be some horrific state but probably loving life that we have completed the marathon!...getting slightly ahead of myself here!!

So last week I stuck to the training plan...apart from my long run day. After a game of netball yesterday I started up the treadmill...and despite my efforts to visualise lots of hotshot marathon runners laughing in my face as they jog easily past me, I'd lost motivation a bit! HOWEVER...I have noticed big improvements; I ran the same run this week as the week before but much faster! So thats always positive! This week I tallied up a total of about 7 miles (which without my long run I'm pretty happy with that!!)

And this week I embark on week 3 of my training plan and I am going to try a spin class too so I shall let you know if I make it out alive!!

Me and Hannah are going to be producing some promotional stuff for you to all keep up to date so once I have launched this blog properly we can get this all going! The fundraising is a big fat niggle in my head, constantly so I'm very eager to get it up and running!!

Let us know if you have any challenges for us to complete to aid your sponsorship generosity and to help us with our training...nothing too lethal though, please.

www.virginmoneygiving.com/laurawakeford is my sponsor page!

Have a great week and I'll update you again next week.

WEEK 1

OK SO I'M RUNNING THE MARATHON! I can't believe that me and Hannah have actually subjected ourselves to this (very worthwhile) torture out of our own free will! The feeling of undue anxiety and complete elation as I read the email that I got my Golden bond place for Variety is one that won't quickly be forgotten!

Hannah and I are running for separate charities; mine for disadvantaged and disabled children.  An issue that has been close to my heart for a couple of years after working on a disadvantaged children's camp in America for the past 2 years! Hannah is raising money for a charity which supports the homeless. Both absolutely fantastic causes...although we have a lot of work to do in terms of running/training and fundraising!

So as my first entry I am creating this blog to keep you all updated on my progress through out the running adventure so that you can see your money is going to see me and Hannah across the finish line on the 21st of April...I'll repeat that WHEN we cross that finish line (even if I'm crawling).

So to keep you up to date on my training plans I have already completed the first 2 sessions of my training plan (along with 2 netball training sessions) whilst dying of the freshers flu...(some how I feel that this will be a highlight of the gruelling session that lie ahead...) and I'm feeling GREAT! I will be keeping track of all the miles I have run per week so you all know that I'm not slacking!

Thank you so much for your support and please keep up to date with mine and Hannahs marathon journeys via this blog or facebook (I'll post the link on my next weekly blog update!)

LOVE (a already aching) LAURA!
